Non-Binary

“Binary” means something that has only one of two states, with nothing in between – like “on” and “off”; “true” or “false”; or, in computers, one or zero.

“Non-binary” then means something that doesn’t fit nearly into one of two categories.

In the case of gender, that means someone that doesn’t fall into one of the traditional “male” or “female” boxes, but sits somewhere outside.
